Traditional Sailing Ships at the Herring Market
This year, three magnificent traditional sailing ships will arrive at Stadin Silakkamarkkinat. Onboard, visitors can enjoy delicious fish dishes served in an atmospheric setting.
Albanus
The history of the schooner Albanus reaches back to 1904, when the Maritime Quarter in Mariehamn began to take shape around shipbuilding. The present Albanus was launched in 1988 and made her maiden voyage in 1989. Sailing under the Åland flag, the vessel can accommodate 45 passengers at a time. Her home port is Mariehamn. The schooner is owned and maintained by Skeppsföreningen Albanus rf.
Vivan
The schooner Vivan was built in Emsalö, Porvoo between 1947 and 1949, and her current home port is in Kotka. In 1975, she came under the ownership of Vivan Association, whose mission is to promote recreational sailing and safeguard the marine environment and cultural heritage. The ship can accommodate up to 75 people.
Valborg
The wooden schooner Valborg was built in Porvoo in 1948. Once known as a cargo ship, Valborg made her first voyage in her current role already in 1980. In 1994, she became the second vessel to be entered into the Finnish Heritage Agency’s register of traditional ships. Her home port is Halkolaituri in Helsinki.
Onboard Valborg, visitors can enjoy traditional salmon soup. The vessel is licensed to serve alcohol.
